Supporting youth soccer in Pleasant Grove

Pleasant Grove lacks resources and advocacy in many areas - including youth soccer. Through low cost camps & clinics, and any other way we can, our 501 (c) 3 nonprofit is helping to create better humans and happier young soccer players.

Soccer camps and clinics shouldn’t just be for families who can easily afford it.

So much of Dallas youth soccer - camps, clinics, leagues, etc. - happens in the suburban "outer ring" or in areas north of I-30. Not much happens in working class Pleasant Grove - where, ironically, soccer is easily the most popular sport.

We support soccer in Pleasant Grove through low-cost camps (or even no-cost, contingent on funding), clinics, equipment procurement, coaching instruction or any other way we can.

We started by running one-week camps, all in Pleasant Grove, working with the area’s elementary schools and junior high schools for enrollment. Now, we’re trying hard to do even more, to create opportunities and provide resources for young players from low-income families.

PG Soccer & Sports is a nonprofit organization – tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code.

About Pleasant Grove

Pleasant Grove represents 15-20 percent of Dallas’ total population - and yet it’s often a forgotten part of the city. The area pays a high price for that level of neglect.

“Some of our public parks are too dangerous to play in. Work is hard to find. There isn’t even a coffee shop in our part of town. Is it any wonder so many bored and hungry kids make desperate decisions?”

- Karla Garcia, writing in a Dallas Morning News editorial about a community in crisis.

In soccer specifically, Pleasant Grove doesn’t even have a dedicated youth soccer association. While youth soccer / club soccer is near ubiquitous in surrounding areas, there is precious little youth soccer infrastructure in Southeast Dallas. And there certainly aren’t many soccer camps, clinics or opportunities for higher level training.

How we help

We are pushing back against the pay-to-play model that shuts out low income families by providing:

  • Low cost (or no cost) week-long camps

  • Low cost (or no cost) single day clinics

  • Coaching instruction for volunteers

  • Extended skills sessions for higher level performers

  • Strength and conditioning programs

  • Equipment procurement and donation

In 2023 we helped serve more than 600 kids from schools and teams across Southeast Dallas.
