Soccer camps, clinics, teams and training shouldn’t just be for families who can easily afford it.
Unfortunately, that’s how things generally shake out. Recreational sports have disappeared in many underserved areas. Similarly, the pay-for-play model simply doesn’t work in lower income areas.
Our overall mission at Pleasant Grove Soccer & Sports: to fill the gaps as best we can. To provide some opportunities that will not otherwise exist.
Our macro goals:
Instruction on basic skills
Exposure to advanced skills for higher level players
Teaching in ways that promote joy and love of the game
Reminding underserved kids that the world cares about them
PG Soccer & Sports is nonprofit – tax-exempt under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Service code – set up operate low-cost youth soccer opportunities for Pleasant Grove, an under-served area in Southeast Dallas.
It’s about soccer. But of course it’s really about helping an underserved community. It’s about adding opportunities in something the community loves (soccer!) and everything that can help downstream: improving physical and mental health, promoting social connections, helping to increase high school graduation rates and teaching life skills.
We hope to do our little part – through soccer!
We’ll offer as many camps, clinics and opportunities as we can fund. Our operations aren’t just something to keep kids busy; they’ll develop skill, athletic ability and knowledge of the game – and have fun along the way.
In addition to soccer training and activations, we are currently creating a youth sports strength and conditioning program that serves all young athletes. Wouldn’t it be great if young athletes from under-served areas get the same access to strength and nutrition education that’s so accessible in other areas?
