Latest BIG event - another one at the historic Cotton Bowl

More than 170 boys and girls ages 10-15 joined us for this one! What you see there is one half of the full gathering.

We usually keep our camps, clinics and other activations in Pleasant Grove. But sometimes an opportunity to expand our reach is just too good to pass up.

For the second year we (Pleasant Grove Soccer & Sports) partnered with some great people with the Dallas Police UNIDOS group to put on a big clinic at Fair Park, inside the historic Cotton Bowl.

We had a great turnout (just like last year) with more than 170 boys and girls, ages 10-15, turning up. And just like last year, a healthy percentage were from our Pleasant Grove schools.

“Make sure they have a great experience. … But we can teach them something today, too!”

When we have our coaches briefing prior to the kids joining us on the field, I like to remind our team: “This one is about the experience. Of course, we can still teach them something. But let’s make sure they remember an unforgettable day, playing inside this great stadium.”

And before the kids come onto the field, I always remind them that World Cup games have been played here! And just a year ago the one-and-only Leo Messi played here!

A HUGE thanks goes to The State Fair of Texas and to Fair Park; our nonprofit could not give so many kids this opportunity without the generous assistance from those two great partners. They even provided lunch to everyone — much needed replenishment after three hours of soccer!

Something else helped this one be even more special: We had players from Dallas Trinity FC join our usual group of outstanding coaches. Three players joined us, but Deborah Abiodun was the rock star of the group. She was sensational in working with the youngsters.

Dallas Trinity FC’s Deborah Abiodun - she was outstanding with the kids!

We like to tie this one to spring break. While plenty of kids get trips for spring break — skiing, or beach trips, or just short vacations away from home — so many of the young boys and girls we work with from underserved areas aren’t getting those trips.

But we can make sure they get this! And we can make it memorable.

Our Pleasant Grove Soccer & Sports coaching staff and operations staff for this one, including some great coaches from the Dallas Police Dept. soccer team and three from Dallas Trinity FC.
