Still to come in ‘23
Summer camps and clinics are over - but we’re not done.
Hopefully, at least.
Our board met last week to review fundraising goals and ideas. We have so many plans for what we’d like to do — but it’s all about fundraising.
There is a fiscal reality to paying for facility rentals, equipment, insurance, coaches and staff, etc.. (Sure, we could ask for volunteers, and we DO get some of that. But quality coaches and staff deserve compensation, even if it’s relatively modest, nonprofit-level compensation.)
What we’d LOVE to do to close out ‘23.
One-day “specialty” clinics
Goalkeeper camp
Striker camp
A strength and conditioning program
Initially aimed at middle school soccer players
Continued assistance in coaching education
Continued assistance in equipment donations
The idea behind the “specialty” camps looks like this: Quality players elsewhere get access to advanced training, such as individual skills coaching, or higher level club coaching. We can’t provide that on a regular basis, but CAN perhaps furnish a few hours of effective, position-specific training — the kind that can potentially push players into advanced levels of performance.
The benefits of strength and conditioning programs are well documented in terms of injury prevention, improvement of strength, coordination, mobility, speed and generally maximizing performance. But the benefits extend into general health into adulthood, confidence and supporting a healthy sense of body image.
Bottom line: they can be happier, healthier young people — and better soccer players! That shouldn’t just be the province of players/ families that can afford to pay for it.
The problem is that young athletes have more access to quality strength and fitness programs in other areas of Dallas. We’d like to make a little dent in that.
